48 hours in Palestine
The classic weekend
Friday evening — live music somewhere downtown. Check the events list for who's playing.
Saturday — Palestine Farmers Market (9 AM, weekly), then stroll Main Street and Trade Days (10 AM, weekly). Afternoon ride on the Texas State Railroad through the Piney Woods.
Sunday — brunch at a local spot (there are 40 on the restaurant list), then the Railroad Heritage Center before you head home.
The free weekend
Saturday morning — browse the Farmers Market and Trade Days; both are free to wander.
Afternoon — tap Free on the events list and pick something — there's usually a free concert, market, or community event on.
Evening — a free night under the East Texas sky costs nothing and beats most things you could pay for.
Walk historic downtown
The free Historic Downtown Walking Tour starts at the Carnegie Library and winds past the Redlands Hotel, the Texas Theatre, and downtown's 1800s storefronts (Sycamore to Queen, Spring to Crawford) — an easy stroll for all ages.
Pick up the paper map at the Palestine Visitor Center, 825 W Spring St (inside the old railroad depot), or follow the tour in the Visit Palestine app.
When to visit
If you're picking dates, March–May and October–November are the best-weather bets.
East Texas gets 45+ inches of rain a year, and it can show up any month — spring is usually the wettest. Always have an indoor backup plan.
Good to know
- Parking downtown is free street parking — and easy, especially on weekends.
- Downtown clusters around Main Street. The Texas State Railroad depot is a short drive east of downtown — follow the signs.
- Lake Palestine is about 15–20 minutes north. Resort events (like the Halloween and New Year's parties) are out that way.
- Everything on this page is within about 20 minutes of downtown. You won't need a plan more complicated than this one.
